Mexico City - You Need Not Get Far On An Astonishing Vacation
Mexico City - the capital of Mexico - makes for a great vacation destination because it offers something for everyone. Mexico City is an archaeological hotspot, it has an extraordinarily colorful culture and a long history, the city itself is very exciting, the markets are fun, and there is always something to do. Mexico City is actually built right on top of what once was Tenochtitlan, the capital city of the might Aztecs. People have been living in the area for a very long time. The city is one of the most populated in the world, with around 20 million inhabitants. If you are trying to find a great place to take a vacation, look into Mexico City. Before you go, however, make sure you and your family have passports or United States passport cards.
All a passport card is, is an alternative to the passport book with some benefits and with some drawbacks. A passport card resembles the other cards in your wallet, and it only costs about $45, much cheaper than the standard passport. In order to use it, you can only be traveling to Mexico, Canada, Bermuda, or the Caribbean, and it can only be by boat or car. All plan travel requires a passport. If you think this is the best option for you, go online and check out online passport service. From these sites, you can get your first passport, replace a passport lost, get a replacement passport, and any other passport service you might need.
Around the city, there are plenty of historic landmarks. One of the most important is The Plaza de la Constitución, or Zocalo. It is the second largest square in the world, right behind the Red Square in Moscow. There are tons of historic landmarks around the Plaza, including the gorgeous Cathedral, the National Palace and the City Hall. The Cathedral is the largest of its kind in all of the Americas, and it even contains an altar made of solid gold. Continuing on the religiously-themed landmarks, the Basílica de Guadalupe is also located in Mexico City. It is considered the holiest Catholic place in the Americas.
The Templo Mayor is easily the most historically and culturally important landmark in the city. This was once the central hub of the Aztec empire, and many very important ceremonies and religious rites took place on the Templo Mayor. Excavated only recently, archaeologists are constantly digging up new and interesting artifacts that give us a glimpse into the life of the Aztecs. The Templo Mayor is a huge component of Mexican history. Teotihuacan is an ancient city that the Aztecs called "The City of the Gods." Now it is a very important archaeological site, especially because it is where the Pyramid of the Sun, the largest pyramid by volume in the world, is located.
Chapultepec Park and zoo is a large area that contains many great things to see and do, including the impressive Museum of Anthropology, the zoo, and several other museums and attractions. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is another culturally important spot. It is a theatre that features famous murals as well as hosts concerts and other performances.
Regardless of what sort of vacation experience you or anyone else in your family is looking to have, Mexico City can offer opportunities. Remember to get your family's US passport cards though and that you can get online passport service for any other service you might need, such as a pasport lost, an expired passport, or a missing passport.
