How To Analyze The Bible
The Bible is a big, thick book and studying it can seem to be insurmountable initially. Many people wish to observe the Bible, but might not know where or ways to start. The best way to study or learn anything is to blend your personality, learning style, and lifestyle . The following few ideas are useful in developing a plan of attack.
Step 1 : Employ a system
In the same way that it's easier to follow a recipe, road map, or the directions that come together with Christmas gift's labeled "some assembly required", studying the Bible can appear a ton less daunting if you've got a plan of attack. Find a system that has achievable targets, whether that be purchasing a study guide for a selected subject, employing a guide that outlines reading thru the Bible in a year, or picking a particular book and doing a detailed study.
Step two : Start to Study
Once you choose a system, the next step is to follow the guide. Starting to look at the Bible will often be more difficult to do than picking a system in Step 1, so try to find ways to personalize it, make it more delightful, and keep it from becoming tedious. Writing in the margins, journaling thoughts, and writing down questions are good methods to help hold your attention. Looking up the answers to your questions later , curiosity driven research, is also a great way to better remember and discover what you're studying.
Step three : Go Deeper
If the ideas in Step two are not enough to hold your interest and you're still looking for methods to make studying the Bible fresh, look for methods to add variation while still staying true to the plan you originally popped up with in Step 1. Try using 2 different variations of the Bible, employing a concordance to look up key words, the looking up cross-references in a Study Bible, or looking for sermons or articles that relate to what you're studying, beyond what's included in the system you selected.
Step four : Learning and Meditating
Meditating, reading portions aloud to oneself, and reminding yourself of verses during the day ( whether that be by strategically place note cards, burning audio files onto a CD, or some other way ) on scripture that you discover is a way of memorising parts of the Bible. As you do these things, try and imagine what your life will be like when the words of Our Lord god are concealed in your heart and drawn to the surface of your life by the Lord.
The simplest way to truly learn and remember something is to study it for you, as you have an interest in what you're researching and as you know it will directly be of benefit to you. If you like some advice that comes your way, naturally, take it and run with it! But do not let other's well-meaning ideas and comments side track you from the system you decide is the best for you. And be sure to guard whatever time you put aside to study, even from other nice things.
